I have recently moved to the area from Boston. My last position in Boston was Internal Director of Events for the Institute of Contemporary Arts and Manager of a pilot project Cafe under Wolfgang Puck. I was hoping, on visiting here, that the chamber would be more vivacious. There are job postings in this system that are as old as April, seven months old. I am wondering why the residents and business owners of Chatham are not more active in making this sight a very motivated and colorful resource tool. It sure would be help for a new comer. I am looking for day time / part-time work as well as volunteer opportunities. However the help wanted section is severely lacking. I read the Madison /Chatham Weekly and I hunt for jobs on Careebuilder and Monster.com etc. However I was looking to keep it more in line with local business and working to support a community in its endeavors. I am very interested in community awareness and local businesses. I am a former business owner myself. I hope over the next month or so that there is a way to remind businesses how valuable a tool the Chamber of Commerce is to the community. That it can literally be the community bulletin board so to speak. The C of C can assist the residents ( new and not so new) feel more in tune and connected with what is going on around town, from school plays to the local theater, the farmers market, Clothing drives for the poor, community forums, business happenings and volunteer opportunities. After all, Chambers help build nations one community at at time.. I think with the looming economic crisis at hand keeping things a little more local will be essential to the survival of local businesses, projects, non-profits and so on. I know I would love to find a great resource that would really put me in touch the the community of Chatham... Thank you for listening Z
